EPA Adds three increased-risk disinfectants to "List N" (Maquat 1412-10-FCS, My Shield Broad Spectrum Disinfectant, and Caspian Disinfectant)
EPA added three increased-risk disinfectants to “List N” (Maquat 1412-10-FCS, My Shield Broad Spectrum Disinfectant, and Caspian Disinfectant). The first two disinfectants contain quaternary ammonium, while the third (Caspian Disinfectant) contains Hypochlorous acid as the active ingredient.
There are 34 additional items on the list named “Maquat” (including the MN series, the Maquat NHQ series, Maquat 7-series, and the Maquat PD series). Every one of these products contains quaternary ammonium. In fact, the company that manufactures them (Mason Chemical Company) offers this tagline, “The Quaternary Specialists”
When applying for approval as a pesticide, Mason Chemical Company offered these first aid tips:
IF IN EYES: Hold eye open and rinse slowly and gently with water for 15-20 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present, after the first 5
minutes, then continue rinsing eye.
IF ON SKIN: Take off contaminated clothing. Rinse skin immediately with plenty of water for 15-20 minutes.
IF INHALED: Move person to fresh air
The application also offers this note to the reviewer:
